When is the God of War release date?
Apart from Sony’s E3 2017 confirmation that the game would be coming out in ‘early 2018’, not much else was known about the release date. That was until Sony released a new God of War story trailer (seen at the top of the article) which concludes with the game’s release date: 20 April 2018.

If you’re a die-hard fan, there’s something a little more extravagant available – the £120 Collector’s Edition. Available from GAME in the UK, the official Collector’s Edition features the game, a statue of Kratos and his son Atreus fighting two Helmsters, two carved toy figurines (as played with by Atreus), a steelbook case, a lithograph print, a map of the in-game world, the original soundtrack, and a Shield Pack containing 3 in-game shields for Kratos to use.
What is God of War gameplay be like?
Santa Monica Studio has been working on the game for several years. Creative Director Corey Barlog says on the PlayStation blog that the aim was to “create a different, better and truly more memorable experience than before”. He explains that it’s not a reboot, not a retelling of the original story. Instead he “wanted to reimagine the gameplay, give players a fresh perspective and a new tactile experience while delving deeper into the emotional journey of Kratos to explore the compelling drama that unfolds when an immortal demigod makes a decision to change.” That’s because in the new God of War, Kratos is a father. The trailer above, which is apparently close to the final opening scene in the game, shows Kratos taking his boy out to hunt deer. Unlike the Kratos in previous games, he’s less violent and more restrained.
The son is integral to the game, and according to The Verge’s interview with Barlog, remains together with Kratos for most of the game. A button on the PS4 controller has even been dedicated to interacting with the boy. Unlike the wide, cinematic camera angles of previous games, the view is now much closer to Kratos’ shoulders. It should be a slower-paced game and many have already commented on how the combat in the teaser has more than a passing resemblance to Dark Souls.

Following the E3 trailer, there was silence for months. That was until PGW 2017, when Sony showcased a new trailer for the upcoming game, giving us another glimpse at Kratos and his young and excitable son.
Most recently, Sony showcased a CG-based cinematic trailer during an episode of Family Guy in the US. The TV ad showcased Kratos taking on a plethora of beasts alongside the newest character, his son Arteus.
