The Galaxy S10 is predicted to be Samsung’s first device with an in-display fingerprint reader and a recent report from Taiwan suggests that Qualcomm’s ultrasonic reader will be used for the task. Reports suggest that the ultrasonic fingerprint reader will be attached to the back of the display panel. Optical display readers need a transparent screen and so are vulnerable to influence from other sources, such as light, dirt or water on the screen. The ultrasonic scanners allow for 3D images which creates a much more detailed record of the user’s finger. Previous insider reports have suggested that only the top two tier models of the S10 will have the ultrasound readers while the baser model will have an optical reader.
