AMD Ryzen Mobile specs and features

There may be more in the future, but for now there are two Ryzen Mobile chips. The Ryzen 5 2500U and Ryzen 7 2700U. Both of which are quad-core processors with eight threads. That ‘2’ at the front is there because AMD considers these chips second-generation Ryzen processors with improved technology and performance. Both new Ryzen Mobile chips are rated at 15W TDP putting them in direct competition with the Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs used in the vast majority of laptops. Overall AMD is claiming improvements of up to three times the CPU performance, 2.3 times GPU performance and 58 percent less power consumption. The firm is targeting a doubling in battery life. Part of the improvement is down to Precision Boost 2 which accelerates processor performance in workloads using from one to many CPU cores. Furthermore, Mobile Extended Frequency Range (mXFR) raises sustained performance in notebooks with ‘great cooling solutions’.

AMD said: “The AMD Ryzen mobile processor combines the award-winning technology powering AMD Ryzen CPUs with the revolutionary graphics of the Radeon “Vega” architecture to deliver exceptional mobile performance for every task.”  With Radeon Vega graphics, AMD is also promising smooth gaming performance. The Ryzen Mobile chips will supposedly be able to play games like Overwatch and CS:GO at 1080p in an ultrathin form factor. Freesync 2 means there’s also support for HDR and 4K monitors.
